Will You Take a Walk with Me

Will You Take a Walk With Me draws from the experience of taking walks, especially during the pandemic. I observed the way walks evolved from a solitary coping ritual to a social one. I designed this participatory performance offering a way of reconnecting in an outdoor public space. I collaborated with musical artist Bridget Barkan, so we could invite people into collective humming and singing. I carried a colorful flag and had chalk (thanks to climber@moderndryad ) on the bottoms of my shoes to bring attention to the pathways created by walks and dances with participants. The flag and a small bracelet-like piece of the flag fabric was passed on to each participant, encouraging them to invite others along on a walk, while offering a souvenir as a memory of the connection walk.
